Nib International Bank has reported a pre-tax profit of 4.2 billion Birr for the 2025/26 fiscal year, marking a recovery from the previous year's losses linked to foreign exchange reforms.
Nib International Bank has returned to profitability for the 2025/26 fiscal year, posting a pre-tax profit of 4.2 billion Birr. This result follows a challenging previous fiscal year, during which the bank recorded a 2.9 billion Birr loss largely driven by 4.4 billion Birr in currency-related impacts following Ethiopia's foreign exchange market reforms.
The bank disclosed its latest performance during an annual management review held on 24–25 July. According to the reported figures, total assets reached 75 billion Birr, while total deposits grew by 14 percent year-on-year to 59 billion Birr. The lender also disbursed 49 billion Birr in loans and generated 154 million US dollars in foreign exchange earnings.
Digital transformation remains a core component of the bank's strategy. Its digital platform, Nibtera, processed 32 billion Birr in transactions throughout the year. The bank continues to promote its suite of digital services, including the Nibtera Virtual Mastercard and digital onboarding, to support its network of 449 branches and a customer base now totaling five million. For those tracking the broader bank sector data, Nib's performance reflects the ongoing recovery trends within the industry.

The bank's return to profit signifies a stabilization in its balance sheet following the previous year's difficulties, which were attributed to legacy foreign currency obligations. At that time, the bank suspended dividend payments to bolster its capital position. Management has indicated that its focus for the 2026/27 fiscal year will remain on deepening digital banking adoption and implementing customer-focused initiatives to maintain this momentum. Investors and analysts can compare financial institutions to see how Nib’s recovery aligns with its peers in the Ethiopian market.
