MIDROC Investment Group has raised its minimum starting salary to 10,000 birr and allocated over 3 billion birr for payroll adjustments for the 2026/27 fiscal year.
MIDROC Investment Group has announced a significant adjustment to its compensation structure for the 2026/27 fiscal year, raising the minimum starting salary for its employees from 6,000 birr to 10,000 birr. The decision follows a period of growth for the conglomerate, which now reports a workforce of 80,000 people, up from 47,000 six years ago.
CEO Jemal Ahmed confirmed that the group has earmarked 3.24 billion birr specifically for salary increments. This move brings the company's total annual payroll expenditure to 13 billion birr, a notable increase from the previous 8.5 billion birr.
In addition to base salary adjustments, the company highlighted its recent performance-based compensation and corporate social responsibility efforts:

The company also reported generating $390 million in foreign exchange during the last fiscal year. According to the CEO, the group has continued to expand its operations and strengthen its international reach, including engagement with global partners such as the International Finance Corporation.
For the broader Ethiopian labor market, such large-scale adjustments by major conglomerates often set benchmarks for private sector compensation trends. As inflation remains a central concern for the economy, the shift toward higher base pay reflects the ongoing efforts by large employers to retain talent and adjust to the current macroeconomic environment.
