Yodit Kassa, Chief Executive Officer of the Ethiopian Securities Exchange, said the addition of a ninth trading member reflects progress in building a strong network of qualified intermediaries. She noted that expanding investor access and building market confidence depend on having capable and compliant market participants.
The growth in ESX trading members points to rising private sector interest in Ethiopia's securities market. More intermediaries can help connect retail and institutional investors to listed opportunities, which is a key step for improving liquidity and market depth as the exchange continues its early development.
Aksion.ET data shows seven listed equities on the ESX with recent closing prices ranging from 434.81 birr for TELE to 2,327.14 birr for AWAB. As the exchange adds trading members, the capacity to facilitate transactions across these listed companies is expected to strengthen.
ESX has indicated it remains focused on widening market participation and building investor trust. The pace of future trading member admissions and the volume of transactions handled by new intermediaries will be important indicators of how quickly Ethiopia's capital market matures.
