Ethiopia generated 11 billion USD in export revenue during the most recent fiscal year, with the gold sector contributing half of the total earnings.
Ethiopia reached a record 11 billion USD in total export revenue during the fiscal year that concluded in July 2026. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced the results during the 30th regular session of the House of People's Representatives, noting that the figure represents a significant increase in the country's trade performance.
According to the Prime Minister, the export earnings for this single year are comparable to the country's total export revenue accumulated over the previous 17 years. He credited the success to a collective effort and stated that the outcome exceeded the government's initial targets for the period.
A primary driver of this performance was the gold sector, which accounted for 5.5 billion USD of the total revenue. The Prime Minister noted that the growth in gold exports alone surpassed the total output achieved by the sector over the preceding 27 years.
