Neway is the official trading app of the Ethiopian Securities Exchange. This guide covers downloading it on Android and iPhone, creating and verifying your account, and placing your first order.
Avoid APK downloads. Neway holds your National ID, biometric selfie and bank details, and places live orders. Installing it from a file-sharing site rather than the official store is one of the most common ways trading credentials are stolen.
On iPhone or iPad, open the App Store and install Neway ESX. On Android, open the Google Play Store and search for “Neway ESX”. Install only the listing published by the Ethiopian Securities Exchange.
Open the app and choose Create Account. Enter your full name, email address and phone number, then set a password.
Neway emails you a six-digit one-time password. Enter it in the app to confirm your email and activate the account.
You will be asked for your National ID - the Digital ID (Fayda) is preferred - a selfie for biometric matching, and your bank account details so trades can be settled.
Neway includes a simulated mode that runs on real market data. Place a few practice orders there before committing money - the prices are live, the money is not.
Once your account is approved and funded, search for a listed company, choose buy or sell, set your quantity and price, and submit. Track it from your portfolio.
Neway gives access to equities and fixed-income instruments listed on the Ethiopian Securities Exchange. Six companies trade on ESX as of August 2026 - Wegagen Bank (WGBX), Gadaa Bank (GDAB), Awash Bank (AWAB), Ethio Telecom (TELE), Abay Bank (ABAYB) and Bank of Abyssinia (BOAX). More companies have registered their shares with the Ethiopian Capital Market Authority but are not yet admitted to trading.
ESX runs a call centre on 9920 (Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM) and a support address at [email protected] for problems with registration, login or trading.
